"We support equality and diversity in Tennessee. After learning about Southern National Congress (SNC) and League of the South (LOS), we have found them to be antithetical to the tolerance and inclusiveness we support. Therefore, I / we condemn the Southern National Congress and League of the South as not representative of the People of Tennessee.
The relationship between Southern National Congress and League of the South is well documented. The SNC has enlisted two TN State Legislators to make presentations at their racist convention November 1 - 3, 2013. We do not accept any form or appearance of racism in public service. Elected officials should demonstrate a deep and meaningful commitment to equality, and at the least should not openly endorse white supremacy and minority inferiority. We call on Senator Niceley and Representative Judd to cancel their scheduled speaking engagement.
Despite efforts to appeal to Southerners using fear of "demographic displacement," League of the South and Southern National Congress are simply white supremacists dressed up as protectors of 'Southern culture'. As the Southern Poverty Law Center points out, League of the South promotes a second Southern secession and a society dominated by 'European Americans', and is a known extremist hate group. The group's president, Michael Hill (former Professor of History at Stillman College), has claimed that white people are endowed with a "God-ordained superiority". We reject pseudo scientific notions of racial superiority. We do not support these organizations' virulent presence in our State, and we are disgusted that they would bring their racist ideology and actions to the State of Tennessee. We do not support racial disharmony and notions of superiority."
